Lorsqu&rsquo;ils me demandent ce que j&rsquo;aime dans mon domaine, je leur dis que j&rsquo;aime retrouver des motifs et faire des liens &#8211; quelque chose que j&rsquo;aime dans toutes les math\u00e9matiques &#8211; et que la th\u00e9orie des nombres en particulier pose des probl\u00e8mes simples \u00e0 comprendre, mais qui conduisent \u00e0 des th\u00e9ories profondes et complexes. Ces th\u00e8mes sont visibles dans les trois repr\u00e9sentations des nombres premiers dans le jardin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les deux premi\u00e8res sc\u00e8nes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">Les tamias d\u00e9couvrent les nombres premiers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la colline, un couple d&rsquo;\u00e9cureuils trie les nombres entiers en une pile de nombres premiers et une pile de nombres compos\u00e9s. Ils apprennent ce que cela signifie d&rsquo;\u00eatre premier, et explorent peut-\u00eatre les nombres premiers pour la premi\u00e8re fois. Au lieu de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 chaque nombre un par un, ils utilisent le <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sieve_of_Eratosthenes\">crible d&rsquo;Eratosth\u00e8ne<\/a> pour trouver tous les nombres premiers en une seule fois. Ils ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9limin\u00e9 les multiples de deux, trois et cinq. J&rsquo;\u00e9tais enthousiaste \u00e0 l&rsquo;id\u00e9e de rejoindre le groupe du Jardin, en partie parce que c&rsquo;est l\u00e0 que se trouvaient les nombres premiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lorsque la vision du jardin a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se pr\u00e9ciser en mars, j&rsquo;ai demand\u00e9 si nous pouvions ajouter une ramification \u00e0 l&rsquo;exploration des nombres premiers &#8211; un chemin de jardin montrant le crible d&rsquo;Eratosth\u00e8nes pour les <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gaussian_integer\">nombres entiers gaussiens<\/a>, \u00e9galement connus sous le nom de <strong>Z<\/strong>[i]. Tout comme les entiers plus familiers, certains entiers gaussiens peuvent \u00eatre factoris\u00e9s : par exemple, <em>3+i <\/em>= (<em>1+2i<\/em>)(<em>1-i<\/em>), ou 5 = (<em>1+2i<\/em>)(<em>1-2i<\/em>). D&rsquo;autres, comme <em>1+2i<\/em>, <em>1-i<\/em> et <em>1-2i<\/em>, ne peuvent pas l&rsquo;\u00eatre. Dans le chemin du jardin, chaque pav\u00e9 enl\u00e8ve des multiples d&rsquo;un nombre entier de Gauss premier, de sorte que les nombres entiers de Gauss composites sont finalement \u00e9limin\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La classification des nombres premiers dans <strong>Z<\/strong>[i] conduit \u00e0 des questions sur les nombres entiers qui peuvent \u00eatre \u00e9crits comme la somme de deux carr\u00e9s et bien d&rsquo;autres choses encore !
